Learning Materials

The Mining Qualifications Authority entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) with the Chamber of Mines (CoM) in August 2004. In terms of the MoU, the CoM will coordinate the development of Learning Materials for the MQA unit standard based Learnerships on behalf of the MQA. The MQA Accredited Training Providers (ATP) will do the actual development of the Learning Materials. The CoM is responsible for allocating the unit standards to the different MQA ATP. The ATP are required to sign a “Power of Attorney” for the CoM to act on their behalf and also stipulating a number of terms in which agreements are concluded between the CoM and the developers.

The process for the development, approval and payment of grants for the Learning Materials is depicted below:

Chamber of Mines submit Learning Material Pack to Technical Reference Group (TRG) via SGB unit for validation

Technical Reference Group validate and send to Chamber of Mines

Project Leader submits validated Learning Materials to Standards Generating Body (SGB) unit

SGB unit present Learning Materials Pack to Learning Materials Steering Committee for approval of format

7

SGB Manager submits approved Learning Material to SGB Committee for grant approval

Finance prints schedule and submits to Learnerships unit for signatures

9

Finance unit pays grants to Chamber of Mines

Learning Materials are captured on I-share

SGB unit informs industry about availability of Learning Materials and updates the list on the website

List of Learning Packs

The following key issues should be noted:

  • That as per MQA policy, all Learning Materials are made available at no cost to the MQA Accredited Training Providers;
  • Non MQA Accredited Providers who wish to have access to the Materials can buy them from the MQA as per the attached pricing structure.
